Modern Air Conditioning For UK Homes

A fixed split air conditioning system uses an indoor unit and an outdoor unit to cool a room efficiently. Unlike portable units, it is designed as a permanent solution with better temperature control, quieter operation and no need for an open window or temporary exhaust hose.

Many modern systems are reversible, allowing them to provide efficient heating as well as cooling. EazyHeat will assess room size, layout, insulation and suitable unit positions before recommending a single-room or multi-room system.

Why Install Home Air Conditioning?

Air conditioning gives you precise control during hot weather, helping bedrooms stay comfortable at night and reducing overheating in sunny rooms, conservatories, loft spaces and home offices. Instead of trying to cool the whole property, you can target the rooms that need it most.

Heating-capable systems add year-round value by providing fast, responsive warmth during cooler months. Selected models also include app control, timers, air filtration and energy-saving modes, making it easier to maintain comfort without leaving the system running unnecessarily.

Energy-Saving Support For Air-To-Air Systems

Many permanently fixed, reversible air conditioning units are treated as air source heat pumps for VAT purposes. Qualifying residential installations can therefore benefit from 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, although the treatment depends on the equipment and installation supplied.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme now offers £2,500 towards eligible residential air-to-air heat pumps in England and Wales. This is intended for qualifying low-carbon heating installations and does not mean every standard cooling project will be eligible. EazyHeat can confirm whether a proposed system meets the relevant requirements, and apply for the scheme on your behalf.

Is Air Conditioning Suitable For My Home?

Air conditioning works particularly well in rooms that overheat, including south-facing bedrooms, loft conversions, conservatories, open-plan living spaces and home offices with computers or large windows. It can also be useful where you want independent control without heating or cooling the whole house.

A suitable position is needed for both the indoor and outdoor units, along with a discreet route for pipework and condensate drainage. The survey will also consider noise, access, electrical supply and whether planning restrictions may apply.

How Air Conditioning Systems Work

Modern air conditioning units use heat pump technology to move heat between indoor and outdoor spaces. This means one system can keep your home cool during warmer weather and provide efficient heating when temperatures fall, offering comfortable conditions throughout the year.

Warm Air Enters the System

In cooling mode, the indoor unit pulls warm air from the room. This air flows across a chilled heat exchanger, which absorbs the unwanted heat and lowers the temperature of the air.

Heat Is Released Outdoors

The absorbed heat is transported through refrigerant pipework to the external unit. It is then discharged into the outside air, helping the temperature inside the property gradually decrease.

Cooled Air Returns to the Room

After the heat has been removed, the cooler air is distributed back into the room through the indoor unit. This cycle continues until the selected temperature has been reached.

The System Can Also Provide Heating

Many air conditioning systems can reverse their operation during colder weather. Instead of transferring heat out of the property, they absorb available warmth from the outdoor air and bring it inside. This allows the same equipment to deliver both heating and cooling.

Flexible ways to pay

Choose from a range of convenient payment options, including flexible finance plans or paying for your installation in full.

Flexible Monthly Repayments

Representative APR 11.9% (fixed)

Spread the cost of your installation over a longer repayment term with manageable monthly payments.

As long as your scheduled monthly payments are maintained, you can make additional payments at any time. Overpayments may help reduce the total interest charged and shorten the length of the agreement.

You will also receive the additional protections provided by the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

Representative example: Cash price £2,000. No deposit required. Total amount of credit £2,000. Interest rate 11.9% per annum fixed. Representative APR 11.9%. Agreement term 60 months. 60 monthly payments of £43.78. Total amount repayable £2,627.08.

Air Conditioning Installation FAQs

Yes. Many modern split systems are reversible air-to-air heat pumps, so they can cool in summer and provide efficient room heating in cooler weather.

Running cost depends on the unit efficiency, room size, set temperature, insulation and operating time. Correct sizing and sensible temperature settings help avoid unnecessary energy use.

Quality indoor units can operate very quietly at low fan speeds, making suitable models practical for bedrooms. Outdoor unit placement is planned carefully to manage sound and meet relevant requirements.

A straightforward single-room split system can often be installed in one day. Multi-room systems or difficult cable and pipe routes may require longer.

Many domestic installations do not require a full planning application, but conditions and local restrictions can apply. Listed buildings, conservation areas, flats and prominent outdoor-unit locations may need additional checks.

Yes. A multi-split system can connect one outdoor unit to several indoor units, subject to capacity and pipe-run limits. Separate single-split systems may sometimes offer better flexibility or efficiency.

Regular servicing keeps filters, coils and drains clean, checks refrigerant performance and supports reliable operation. The recommended frequency depends on how heavily the system is used and the manufacturer’s requirements.

Bedrooms, loft conversions, conservatories, home offices and heavily glazed living areas often gain the most benefit. A survey will confirm the required output and best unit position for each room.
