Reliable Boiler Installation & Replacement in Northampton

Northampton’s boot and shoe heritage left dense rows of Victorian terraces in Semilong, St James and Far Cotton, and they shape many of the boiler installations we carry out across NN1, NN2 and NN5. Boilers are often in a compact back kitchen, so we survey flue routes and access first and avoid costly relocations.

Anglian Water supplies very hard water to Northampton, so limescale builds up quickly inside heat exchangers and pipework. On every installation in NN3 and NN4 we flush the system, fit a magnetic filter and recommend scale protection, so your new boiler stays efficient for years, whatever the size of your home.

Whether you’re replacing an old back boiler in Kingsthorpe, upgrading to a combi in Abington or fitting a system boiler in a large Duston house, our Gas Safe engineers commission every installation and register the warranty, so your Northampton boiler runs efficiently from day one.

Why Replace Your Old Boiler in Northampton

Many of the boilers we replace in Northampton are 12 to 15 years old or more, fitted when terraces were modernised and left alone since.

Solid-wall brick terraces built for shoemakers lose heat quickly, so an inefficient boiler burns far more gas to keep rooms warm through cold East Midlands winters.

Former shoe factories converted into flats in NN1 and Semilong often have shared flues and restricted access, so we check ventilation, gas supply and freeholder approval before work begins.

Hard water in NN2 and NN3 is one of the most common causes of failed heat exchangers, and scale-related breakdowns are call-outs we attend often each winter.

Many older Northampton terraces and semis still use regular boilers with loft tanks that can freeze or leak in cold snaps. Switching to a combi removes those tanks, frees up loft and cupboard space and gives instant hot water whenever you turn on the tap.

Choosing a new A-rated boiler trims running costs, unlocks smart heating controls and includes a manufacturer warranty of up to 12 years, meaning fewer breakdowns for Northampton homes.

How Much Does a New Boiler Cost in Northampton?

In Northampton, a like-for-like combi replacement usually costs between £1,800 and £3,500 fully installed, depending on the brand and output. This covers most terraces in Semilong, St James and Far Cotton, where the new boiler stays in the same position.

For a system or regular boiler, found in larger homes in Kingsthorpe, Duston and Wootton, expect around £2,200 to £4,000, particularly if the cylinder or loft tank also needs replacing.

Converting from a tank-fed system to a combi, removing a back boiler or working in a converted shoe factory flat with restricted access typically costs £3,000 to £5,000. EazyHeat provides a fixed, itemised quote before any work begins.

Your Northampton quote is itemised so you can see where every pound goes, from the boiler and flue to controls, labour and commissioning, and the figure we agree before work starts is the figure you pay once the job is done.

Choosing the Right Boiler When Replacing Your Old Gas Boiler in Northampton

When it comes to replacing an existing gas boiler, you have several options depending on your home, lifestyle, and budget in Northampton.

Combination Boilers (Combi) Northampton

  • Heat your central heating and hot water directly from one compact unit.
  • No separate hot water cylinder needed.
  • Best suited to Semilong or St James terraces and households with one bathroom.
  • Highly energy-efficient, with minimal heat loss.

Ideal for: compact shoemakers’ terraces, flats and small to medium homes in areas like Far Cotton and Abington.

System Boilers Northampton

  • Take water directly from the mains and store it in a hot water cylinder.
  • Provide a constant supply of hot water to multiple taps at once.
  • More suited to larger Kingsthorpe or Duston homes with higher hot water demand.

Ideal for: Families with multiple bathrooms in larger NN4 and NN5 homes and households with heavy daily hot water use.

Regular Boilers (Conventional) Northampton

  • Also known as traditional or heat-only boilers, still common in older Northampton terraces and semis.
  • Use a separate hot water cylinder and cold water storage tanks, typically in the loft space.
  • Best for homes with an existing tank-fed setup in Wootton or Abington.

Ideal for: Larger detached homes in NN2 or NN4 already configured for a regular boiler, or with high hot water needs.

Boiler Installation FAQs

Yes. Terraces built for the footwear trade are a regular part of our work across NN1 and NN5. We plan the flue route through a rear wall or roof, size the boiler for a compact kitchen and protect your home throughout, keeping disruption to neighbours to a minimum.

Often yes. Converted factories need extra checks on ventilation, flue routes, gas supply and lease restrictions. We liaise with the managing agent where needed and fit a compact combi that meets Part J and building regulations without affecting neighbours or the building’s fabric.

Very hard water leaves limescale on heat exchangers and pipework, which reduces efficiency and shortens boiler life. We flush the system, fit a magnetic filter and can add scale protection. Annual servicing keeps your boiler running well and protects your warranty.

A like-for-like combi swap in a typical Northampton terrace or semi takes 4 to 6 hours. Removing a back boiler or converting a larger Kingsthorpe home from a regular system usually takes a full day, occasionally running into the next morning for commissioning. We tidy up fully and explain your new controls before we leave.

Alongside Northampton city centre, we install boilers in Semilong, Kingsthorpe, Abington, Duston, Far Cotton, Weston Favell and Wootton, as well as Wellingborough and Daventry. If you are just outside the NN postcodes, we also cover nearby Milton Keynes, Coventry and Leicester. We regularly work across Northamptonshire.
